Delighted to have been invited to present our artistic and publishing practice at the CLA–Collection de Livres d’Artiste hosted at Espace Delvaux, Bibliothèque de Watermael, Brussels, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 4:30 to 6 pm.

Founded in 2012 in Paris, AVARIE is an independent publishing house that sees books as a space for research, experimentation, and creation in close collaboration with artists and graphic designers, at the outskirts of commercial production. Its publications were exhibited internationally and selected for the Author’s Book Award at Rencontres d’Arles, Prix Bob Calle du Livre d’artiste (Paris), Oggetto Libro (Milan), and were honored with the SMC Award by Printed Matter (NY/LA) in 2020.

On April 16, Giuliana Prucca—writer, curator, and founder of AVARIE—will hold a lecture–performance on independent publishing as an artistic practice, presenting a series of audio-visual documents (photographs, paintings, literary texts, film excerpts, sound recordings, etc.) that showcase examples of her publications as well as the sources that inspired them.

The CLA is a special collection within the public library of Watermael, featuring over 2,500 artists' books. Uniquely, the collection is available for loan, reflecting a strong commitment to making contemporary art publishing — and this rich artistic resource — easily accessible to all.
